Financial support schemes for businesses, orchards and farms now live

Avocado Tree

Two financial support schemes for businesses, orchards, and farms impacted by the North Island weather events (NIWE) are now live for applicants.

Both schemes are targeted at businesses in Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Tairāwhiti, Hawke's Bay, Tararua, and Wairarapa.

  1. The NIWE Loan Guarantee Scheme enables commercial lenders to provide loans to highly affected businesses across all sectors with more favourable terms, such as reduced interest rates. For more information, contact your bank or usual lender, or read the North Island Weather Events Loan Guarantee Scheme page on The Treasury website.
  2. The NIWE Primary Producer Finance Scheme provides concessionary loans and equity finance to severely impacted, land-based primary sector businesses, such as farms and orchards. The Scheme is targeted towards businesses that have a likelihood of being commercially viable but cannot currently access finance without government support. For more information, visit Kānoa’s Grow Regions website. Please note, the NIWE Primary Producer Finance Scheme went live on 31 July 2023 and will be open until 8 September 2023.

The Hawke’s Bay Regional Recovery Agency continues to work closely with Central Government agencies and industry groups to ensure growers and farmers have the support they need to maximise the assistance that has been made available.

Those in the Hawke’s Bay region who would like more information on either of these financial support schemes, or who would like to discuss a potential application, can contact Cameron Osmond from Kānoa in the first instance.
